The design concept of floating cubes in varying shades not only adds visual interest and balance to the facade but also serves a functional purpose, optimizing interior spaces and providing distinct areas for balconies. These architectural elements create a harmonious blend of form and function, enhancing both the aesthetics and utility of the home.
This contemporary small-lot subdivision project features a dynamic composition of cantilevered volumes, clean rectilinear forms, and contrasting materials. Elements such as recessed entries, overhangs, and projecting forms create depth, visual rhythm, and engaging shadow play— creating a balance between modern forms and efficient spatial use.
Task
The goal of this small lot subdivision was to obtain an ideal view of downtown Los Angeles and avoid repetitive forms for each single-family dwelling unit.
