Luxury Of Minimalism

The project involves adding a new single-family home and a detached ADU through the SB-9 Lot Split ordinance on an 81,000-square-foot hillside lot in Tarzana Hills, offering stunning views of the city below. A minimalist design ethos, characterized by a restrained material palette and precise detailing, creates a luxurious and refined modern home that fully embraces the indoor/outdoor living experience for which Los Angeles is renowned. The design maximizes city views with roof decks, large windows, and sliding doors, all framed with minimalist lines that enhance the sense of openness. Twelve-foot ceilings enclose the kitchen, dining, and living areas, which open seamlessly onto an outdoor garden and an infinity-edge pool. Positioned on a prominent hillside above the city, the residence takes the form of a sculptural volume, scaled to fit the vast site. The architectural approach directly responds to the site’s conditions: the building follows the natural contours of the land, while the interior spaces extend outward to embrace nature, creating a seamless connection between the home and its surroundings.
